Nellie J. (Halsey) Gambrel, 99, Winnebago, died at 7:20 p.m.
Tuesday, June 8, 1993, in Neighbors Nursing Home, Byron, after a
lengthy illness. Born Nov. 12, 1893, in Heyworth, Ill., the daughter
of John and Sarah Iseminger Halsey. Winnebago resident sice 1945,
coming from Byron. Married Dr. Earl T. Gambrell in First Presbyterian
Church, Heyworth, June 16, 1914; he died Aug. 22, 1981. Taught in rural
Heyworth elementary schools for three years. Member of First
Presbyterian Church, Dorcas Circle, Winnebago Garden Club and Reading
Circle. Honorary member, Winnebago Senior Women's Club and 50-year
member, Order of the Eastern Star. Heyworth High School graduate, Class
of 1911.
Attended Illinois State University. Survivors; four daughters, Grace
(Homer) Snyder, Byron, Mariorie Louise (Haroid) Miller, Marmora, N.J.,
Carol (Stanley) Meyers, Winnebago, and Barbara (Ted) Seaman, Alpharetta,
Ga., four sons, Dr. Paul (Helen) Gambrel, Byron, Maurice (Judy) Gambrel,
Rockford, Earl J (Jackie) Gambrel, Oregon, and Dr. Loren (Anna Belle)
Gambrel, Winnebago; 20 grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Services 11 a.m. Saturday, June 12, in DENANDT FUNERAL HOME, 601
Winnebago Road, Winnebago, with the Rev. J, Michael Solberg, pastor of
First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial in Winnebago Cemetery.
Visitation 10 a.m. to services Saturday at the funneral home. Memorials
to the church and Neighbors Nursing Home, 6-10-3.
