26th Infantry Regiment
From the "History of DeWitt County, Illinois - 1882"
This regiment was mustered into the United States service at Camp Butler, August 31, 1861.
A portion of Company "K" of this regiment voluteered from DeWitt County. It served out the
full time of service and received final payment and discharge at Springfield, IL on July 28,
1865. The total distance marched by the regiment in four years' service was 6,931 miles.
