The trial of Charles Brock for the murder of Luther Halsey in the northeast
corner of Waynesville Township will be called at the next term of Court at
Clinton on Oct 29, 1892. A change of venue may be taken.

The jury of the Brock-Halsey manslaughter case could not reach a verdict.
They were dismissed Sat by Judge Herdman and given a server reprimand for
not reaching a decision. The Judge said that the case should have been
decided in five minutes. The jury had different views which could not be
reconciled. The First Ballot stood six to six and another eight for
acquittal and four against. The trial cost the county $500 dollars and will
have to be done all over again. Each family has it’s friends and various
opinions are expressed.
